Engineering Steel is a steel that has had small amounts of one or more alloying elements (other than carbon) such as such as manganese, silicon, nickel, titanium, copper, chromium and aluminum added. This produces specific properties that are not found in regular carbon steel.
Engineering Steels are workhorses of industry because of their economical cost, wide availability, ease of processing, and good mechanical properties. Alloy steels are generally more responsive to heat and mechanical treatments than carbon steels.
Mild steel rectangular tube (also known as mild steel rectangular hollow section or box section) is hot rolled steel that has been formed into a rectangular tube.
Mild steel rectangular tube is measured by taking the outer dimensions (which are different) and then the wall thickness.
Steel rectangular tube/box section is commonly referred to as HSS, meaning Hollow Structural Section. Typically it has an inside seam due to it being welded.
Mild steel rectangular tube applications include trailers, barriers, bike racks, home construction and many more. A mild steel rectangular hollow section is used in general fabrication where strength is a requirement.
